Putting the B in Boomerang

What do King Arthur Flour, New Belgium Brewing, Eileen Fisher, and Kleen Kanteen all have in common? Each of these companies is a certified B Corp: businesses that meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.

And in 2016, Boomerang joined their ranks.

Why take this step? Day and day out, Boomerang is proud of the consistent, accurate and reliable service that we are able to provide on a case by case basis. We know that we are providing significant value to the clients we have. But as a corporation functioning in the context of the larger economy, we wanted to ask ourselves some larger questions. What value were we providing to our workforce? How were we meeting the needs of the larger world? After hearing a presentation at an industry conference, we decided that pursuing a B Corporation certification would allow us to answer those questions in an intentional way.

Receiving B Corps status required asking tough questions about how to improve the experience of our employees. It pushed us to return a larger portion of our profits back to the community in the form of donations to nonprofit organizations. It forced us to look beyond what we did everyday and focus on how others are dealing with their own reality.  In short, it made us ask how – as a single abstracting firm – we could make an outsized difference to our community and beyond.

Since receiving our certification, Boomerang has twice been honored by B Corp for creating the most positive impact for its employees – landing us in the top 10% of B Corps workplaces. But we won’t stop there. Boomerang will continue to ask how we can improve the quality of life for our employees. We will continue to support local nonprofits like Mudlark Theater and Family Matters, a community organization on Chicago’s northside. We will continue to respond to B Corps’ call to balance profit with purpose.

You can identify a certified B Corporation by their logo – a small capital B in a circle, located on most packaging and websites of participating organizations. And we would encourage you to support our fellow B Corps members as often as possible. In the meantime, however, know that every time you place an order with Boomerang Information Services, you are making a choice not only for quality service, but for purpose and change as well.
